Asteras Tripolis vs Olympiakos Piraeus Match Preview

For the 2nd matchday of the Greek Super League, Asteras Tripolis welcomes Olympiakos.

After an exciting opening game in this season's Super League, Asteras Tripolis managed to leave with a 3-3 draw in Volos against the local team. They were the team that took the lead, however, not only were they equalized before the end of the first half, but in the second half they found themselves behind in the score with 3-1. However, they did not give up and with an impressive effort managed to equalize in the last minute of injury time.

Thus, Asteras started the new season positively with a result that boosted their psychology, however, their defensive line was clearly problematic.

Olympiacos started their attempt to defend the title with a home win, they prevailed 2-0 over PAS Giannina in the previous weekend. It was a deserved victory for the "red and whites" as defensively they were not troubled by their opponents and with two goals scored in the second half, they took all three points.

On Thursday, they were stressed but finally qualified for the Europa League group stage by eliminating Apollon Limassol in penalty shootout. They started impressively in the match scoring in the first seconds but after that, they were not able to convert their attempts into a second goal, and finally, they paid for it. Shortly before the final whistle, the Cypriot team equalized at 1-1, repeating the score of the first match, sending the match to overtime. In the extra half hour, the score did not change and both teams went to the penalty shootout, where Olympiacos qualified having their goalkeeper in a great night.

Asteras' attacking football was a surprise in their opening game, showing a great ability to find the net. Tonight, against a superior but quite fatigued Olympiakos from their European campaign, they want to break the negative streak of the last few years against their big rivals, however, they certainly lack quality compared to the champions. Given that the "red and whites"  rarely keep a clean sheet this season, it is quite possible to see some goals here. My choice is Over 2.5 goals at 2.25 odds.
