Chelsea vs Southampton Match Preview

Chelsea welcomes Southampton for the 24th matchday of the English Premier League.

For one more match in the last period, Chelsea could not win away from home as in the previous matchday they played a 1-1 draw against West Ham on the road. It was all decided in the first half when Graham Potter's side opened the scoring after the first quarter of the match but minutes later conceded the equalizer. In the rest of the match, both tried for the second goal but to no avail.

This was the 3rd consecutive draw for Chelsea in the league and now their goal to participate in the European cups of the new season becomes more difficult as they are in 10th place with 31 points. Last Wednesday the London team was defeated in Germany by Dortmund 1-0 for the first match of the round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League. The replay will follow at the beginning of March at Stamford Bridge.

It was a bad defeat for Southampton last week 2-1 at home to Wolves. In the first half, everything was perfect for them as they went into the break having the lead while their opponent had a man less on the pitch. However, in the last twenty minutes of the match, they collapsed and, conceding two goals, lost the match!

So Southampton remains at the bottom of the standings with 15 points, having a 4-point margin from the safety zone, showing that they need to improve significantly if they want to play in the Premier League next year as well.

Chelsea is missing the 3-pointer for 3 matches in a row but I don't think they deserved all these unsuccessful results, based on their performance and the quality of their roster. Bottom-placed Southampton is the ideal opponent for the hosts to return to winning ways.. I expect that the hosts will show their offensive talent and instead of the low-priced home win, I will go for some goals in this match. My pick is Over 2.5 goals at 1.93 odds.
