Albania vs Iceland Match Preview

Albania is ranked at 3rd place with a single point after a draw and two losses over the last three games. The situation in their group changed when Russia was canceled from the tournament and only three teams remained. They started with a nice draw on the road against Iceland but then two consecutive losses against Israel ruined it for them. In the first duel, they were leading 1-0 but conceded twice in the second half to lose the game. On the return leg, they managed to equalize in the final minutes but conceded a late goal immediately after that and lost 2-1.

They have been playing quite well offensively and in this game, I think the coach will dare even more and put his best young players from the start, Broja and Uzuni. Both of them have scored a goal each in these games of the UEFA Nations League. If Albania manages to improve slightly in the defense and avoid silly mistakes they could hope for the 2nd spot.

Iceland, on the other hand, is ranked at the 2nd spot with 3 points, as they come after drawing each of the three duels played. Like I said earlier they drew against Albania in the opener and then got 1-1 and 2-2 draws against Israel. It is no surprise that they are not the team they used to be when they qualified for the EURO and it is also seen on the pitch. Their rivals have not been in great form but still, they failed to beat any of them.

I think for Iceland too is the same worry as they have a good attack but in defense, they concede quite a lot. They have conceded 5 goals like Albania and failed to keep a clean sheet in any of the matches disputed.

In conclusion, I think Albania can win this match or get at least a draw. In terms of the roster, they have some very capable individuals like the ones I mentioned earlier. Also considering they will play at home and the fact that it is an important game to try and save the campaign I do not see them losing. Iceland on the road has won only two of the last ten duels and they were friendlies against teams like San Marino and the Faroe Islands.
