Aris vs Panathinaikos Match Preview

Aris faces Panathinaikos for the 9th round of the Greek Super League playoffs.

Aris comes from a heavy 2-0 defeat in the derby against city rivals PAOK after a very bad performance. The hosts were unable to create any goal-scoring chances in the game and by conceding two goals in the second half, Aris failed to get anything of the match.

This was the fourth consecutive match that Aris remain winless, and this put an end to their hopes of reaching the 2nd spot. Currently, they sit at the 3rd spot with a total of 59 points, 5 points behind the second-placed PAOK.

Panathinaikos, on the other hand, failed to get a positive result once again in a game against AEK, suffering a 0-1 home defeat. They found themselves back in the scoreline since the beginning of the second half and failed to equalize even with a penalty kick in the dying minutes of the game.

Having registered a single win after 8 rounds played, Panathinaikos have lost any hope for a European ticket since they are 6 points away from fourth-placed AEK and can't reach them with only two rounds remaining. These negative results led the club to sack coach Lazlo Boloni.

Both sides come from mediocre performances in the last few rounds but I think that the hosts are in better form than Panathinaikos since they managed to secure at least a European ticket.
