Chelsea vs Sevilla Match Preview

The first round of the UEFA Champions League group stage brings us a great clash between Chelsea and Sevilla at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea finished 4th in last season's Premier League and won a ticket once again for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. Last year, they reached the last 16 of the competition where they suffered two defeats against the champions, Bayern Munich. Their roster has improved a lot since the last season signing players like Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz, and Timo Werner, spending an amount of more than 250 million.

Frank Lampard's team brims with quality and experience, ready to make a great run both in the domestic league and the UCL. In the previous round of the English Premier League, they drew 3-3 against Southampton. Havertz and Werner are currently in excellent form, having scored many goals already.

The only missing for Lampard's team is Marcos Alonso, who is carrying his suspension from the previous season. Tiago Silva is expected to be in the first eleven for the 'blues'.

On the other hand, Sevilla finished 4th as well in LaLiga and qualified in the UCL group stage. For one more season they won the Europa League trophy, this time they prevailed over Inter by 3-2 in the final. In the European Super Cup, they faced Bayern Munich and fought till the end to reach victory, but unfortunately, they lost the title by 2-1 in the extra time.

In the previous round of La Liga, Sevilla suffered a 1-0 defeat in the local derby against Granada. The 21 years old Jules Olivier Kounde who was tested positive for Covid-19 is out tonight.

it looks quite likely that both these sides will reach the next stage of the tournament (the other teams of the group are Stade Rennais and Krasnodar).  Chelsea seems to be in better shape at the beginning of the season and with Werner and Havertz on fire, their chances for victory are high in this one.
