Cyprus vs Slovakia Match Preview

Cyprus starts their campaign for the World Cup qualifiers with a tough task as they have to face Slovakia at home. They have never managed to qualify for the World Cup in the past and I guess their only goal in this group is to avoid the last spot for which they will battle with Malta. Not just that but they have two important games against Estonia in the next few days which will decide if they will remain in the League C of the Nations League or get relegated to League D.

I guess they will try to give their best not against Slovakia but against Estonia where there is a lot at stake. Their players lack experience for this level as only five from the whole team play outside of Cyprus.

Slovakia, on the other hand, has got to try and perform well here in order to forget about the awful run they had in the Nations League where they finished 4th in their group and got relegated to League C. In general, they have a better team than their rivals, and considering the teams in this group, they know they have to earn full points against teams like Malta and Cyprus if they want to hope for ending in the top two.

Their players are way superior and with quality as to mention a few like Skriniar who plays with Internazionale, Lobotka - Napoli, Kucka - Parma, Pekarik - Hertha Berlin, and Bozenik - Feyenoord. All of them are expected to play from the start here despite the initial doubts about traveling because of Covid.

In conclusion, I think Slovakia can win this match or get at least a draw. Slovakia needs to start the campaign strongly and having players like the ones I mentioned I do not see them losing here. In two official games against Cyprus, they managed to win in both. Cyprus does not have what it takes to beat a superior team like Slovakia and as I said earlier they will have their focus on the next duels.
