Daegu vs Pohang Match Preview

Daegu reached the quarter-finals of the Korean Cup after a suffered victory against an inferior Daejeon Korail which plays in the K3 League and is also one of the worst teams there. They needed penalties to get their win after a 3-3 draw at the end of the regular and extra time. In the league, they are 6th-placed and finally managed to climb in the top six but still nothing is sure yet as the distance is just one point with the following team. They come after four draws and a win over the last five matches across all competitions and in fact they have been drawing too many matches this season.

While it is a good thing that they have avoided some defeats the thing is they are also the team that won the fewest games from the top six. That is mainly because of a poor defensive side as they have conceded 23 goals so far and failed to keep a clean sheet in four of the last five duels.

Pohang, on the other hand, managed to reach the quarter-finals after first taking care of Gimhae 0-5 while on the road and then had a tougher task winning 2-1 against Seongnam which is a team of K1 League. Now they play their chance for a ticket in the semis against a rival which pretty much comes in the same form. They come after two wins two draws and a loss over the last five matches. In the league they are ranked at 5th place and sit four points ahead of Daegu.

They have been doing way better defensively conceding 17 goals and this makes them the third best defense in the league. Also their attack has been very decent with 23 goals and in the last five encounters, they have scored a total of nine goals averaging almost two goals per game.

In conclusion, I think Pohang can manage to win or get at least a draw here. There is no big difference between these two teams so despite being on the road I guess they have good chances to advance here. I expect a solid defensive game by them and maybe it could go to penalties. Four of their last five h2h matches ended in a draw.
