Hoffenheim vs Union Berlin Match Preview

For the 33rd round of the Bundesliga, Hoffenheim welcomes Union Berlin.

Hoffenheim fought it out last week away at Wolfsburg but could not avoid a 2-1 defeat. A result that, based on their performance, does them no justice as they missed many great chances but were unlucky and missed the final attempts. Unlike the home side who in the few good moments were very effective and it was they who got the win. 

This was the 3rd defeat for Hoffenheim in the last 4 league games which keep them very low in the standings, namely in 14th place with 32 points and just plus 2 from the bottom three in the standings.

Back to winning in emphatic way for Union , last week they overcame Freiburg 4-2. They were excellent in the first half in which they played some very good football and scored 3 times to take a significant lead for the win. In the second half they saw their opponent score 2 goals and reduce the score but found a way to score a fourth goal to form the final result.

So with this win, Union reached 59 points, tied for 4th place with Freiburg, who in their own match this weekend defeated Wolfsburg 2-0 on Friday night, while also having one point less than 3rd place Leipzig in the battle for the top 4 spots.

This is undoubtedly an important matchup, between two teams that are, for different reasons, looking for a three-point lead. Hoffenheim to move out of the bottom places, Union to take another step towards the top four. With this in mind, I think both will take a risk to win and I expect a match with a lot of chances and goals. My pick is Over 2.5 goals at odds of 2.00.
