Melbourne had a bad start this season, and as a result, they are far behind from the top places of the table. Melbourne are coming from two consecutive defeats in their last two matches, 3-2 to Central Coast Mariners by 1-0 to Adelaide United. With just 15 points they are played at the 8th place in the standings and their main goal now is to return at the top spots. In the Asian Champions League qualifiers, they won 5-0 over Bali United, qualifying to the next round of the competition. Next week they face Kashima from Japan in the playoffs of the competition, where if they win, they will enter the group stage. Ola Toivonen will be available tonight, he is expected to be in the first eleven.

After 13 games, Sydney have eleven wins, one draw, and one defeat, having an 8-point difference from the second-placed Melbourne City.
