They focus mainly on a defensive football and the fact is that they have one of the best defenses among the teams struggling in the relegation zone, but also a poor attack with just 19 goals scored, making them the worst in the league alongside Dijon and Nimes.

I expect another tactical defensive approach by them here, as I doubt they could try and get three win in a row against a St. Etienne side that is in need for points too.

St. Etienne is ranked at the 15th place with 28 points and comes after some very bad times where they lost four games in a row. They finally broke that streak last week when they beat Nimes 2-1.

They sit nine points above the relegation zone but losing games like this can complicate their situation in the future and I doubt St. Etienne would want to start another losing streak like that.

They played a couple of days ago against Monaco for the Coupe de France and they played with their best eleven, as the Cup is a goal for them now considering they are out of the Europa League and have nothing left to play for in Ligue 1. Their players might be a little tired and having to travel once again does not help.

In conclusion, I think this match can end in a draw. Both teams would be more than happy splitting one point here. On the one side St. Etienne have played more games than their rivals, so avoiding defeat would be gladly accepted and on the other side Metz would continue their unbeaten run and stretch the distance from the relegation zone to five points.
