Newcastle vs Chelsea Match Preview

For the 16th matchday of the English Premier League, Newcastle welcomes Chelsea to St. James' Park.

Newcastle were impressive last week, beating Southampton 4-1 away. As the final score shows, they prevailed easily and fairly as they took advantage of all the great opportunities they had and with one goal in the first half and three in the replay, they triumphed at the end.

This was their 4th win in a row, climbed to 3rd place with 27 points and are now dreaming of the top four in the standings. Midweek, Newcastle beat Crystal Palace 3-2 on penalties for the League Cup and qualified for the next stage of the competition.

Second consecutive defeat for Chelsea in the league as the previous matchday they were defeated at home in the London derby by Tottenham 1-0. They didn't perform well, offensively they didn't really threaten at any moment of the match and conceding the only goal halfway through the second half tehy lost the match.

So they stayed at 21 points and have now fallen back to 7th place in the Premier League. However, Chelsea did not succeed even last Wednesday for the League Cup against Manchester City, they were defeated 2-0, being disqualified from the next stage of the competition.

Newcastle are coming off a run of wins that have taken them high up the standings and go into the match with their spirits high. On the other hand, Chelsea in the last two weeks have shown a dip in their performance and are called upon to show character. I expect a close match between two quality teams who score with ease.
