Real Madrid is 11 points behind Barcelona with a game less played. In the last few La Liga matches they lost some points and now they need to win this game to close the gap from Barcelona. A good thing for them could be their FIFA World Cup title which could give them confidence moving forward. Important games are ahead of them, most notably the one against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.

Elche is a team that is at the bottom of the league having only 9 points. They were probably the worst team in the European top 5 leagues a few weeks ago as they had no wins, 4 draws, and 12 losses in 16 games. However, in the last four matches, they were much improved. They got 2 draws against Osasuna and Cadiz and got a big win against Villareal in their most recent match. They are still probably going to end up relegated but they have started to play better.

Real Madrid needs a win here. They played well in the FIFA World cup. Benzema is back from injury and that is a huge asset in their attack but if they want to win titles they need to play better defense. Elche is the worst team in La Liga with the fewest goals scored.
