River Plate are the deserved favorites

River's journey in the group wasn't that difficult. They registered two wins and four draws, however, International got the first place and they qualified through the second place. The knock out games are now a chance for the last season's Champions to defend their title. Marcelo Galliardo's remained on the bench of the 'millionaires' for one more season. They also won the Recopa Sudamericana vs Atletico Paranaense (1-0 loss in Brazil, 3-0 in their home). In their most recent game for the Argentinian Cup, they qualified to the next stage against Gimnasia Mendoza through the penalty shootout (1-1 in the regular time). Only a few transfers were made since last year, the core of the team didn't change. 

On the other hand, Cruzeiro's journey in the group stage of the competition was almost impeccable. They registered 5 wins and a loss and got the first place, having 15 points, however the fact that they face the defending Champions River Plate troubles the team. In their domestic league they didn't start well, they sit on 16th place, having 10 points. They didn't register a win in their last 8 games. They played a bore draw in Bahia's home in their most recent one. In the Brazilian Cup, they won 3-0 Atletico Mineiro at home and suffered a 2-0 loss on the road. Attacker Fred won't perform tonight.

River Plate want to defend their title. They are deserved favorites at their home against Cruzeiro, who are not doing well in their last games, especially away from home. River Plate will try to make tonight the first qualification step for the quarter-finals. Home win at 1.70 will be my call.
