Lyon vs Dijon Match Preview

This match for Ligue 1 comes no more than 10 days since the last match Lyon played, for the very odd 2019-2020 season when they reached the last 4 in the Champions League and got knocked out by the champions, Bayern Munich.

In the last season, things didn't go quite well for them, since Ligue 1 ended early due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Lyon finished 7th in the standings, staying out of the European competitions.

They signed the striker K. Toko Ekambi, who was playing on loan for them in the previous season, while T. Kadewere, also a striker, will wear the Lyon jersey as well. However, he is still not available in this match against Dijon, since he is not fit yet. Suspended Brazilian defender Rafael will also be unavailable tonight. 

Dijon had a bad start in the league, suffering a 0-1 home defeat to Angers, in a match where they performed quite well and could have taken at least one point. However, they had two goals disallowed by the VAR, while in the first half, in one of their biggest chances to score the ball hit the post.

Just 48 hours earlier, defender J. Panzo joined the xlub, while another newcomer, defender A. Chalá, is in contention for Dijon. Midfielder Pape Diop is not eligible for tonight's game, as he is on loan from Lyon. Defender S. Coulibaly and one of the most important players of the team, striker Júlio Tavares, remain injured.

Lyon has definitely the quality needed to win here, but I expect it will be a tough match for them, considering that it is played just 9 days after their last match for the previous season. Regarding their h2h matches in the last 3 years, Dijon has decent performances against Lyon on the road with one win and two draws. Cconsidering the special circumstances of the home team, I will go with upset here. Dijon to win, the odds are massive!
